Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS C1 NATURAL STYLES?
C1 Natural Styles is a brand that distributes photographic looks for photo editing with Capture One, a professional raw converter and image editing software developed by Phase One.
WHAT IS A STYLE?
A style is the sum of multiple image adjustments ('presets'), such as curves-, levels-, and color balance adjustments. In simple words: A style is a distinct look for photos, just like an Instagram filter. C1 Natural Styles makes use of the different settings that Capture One Pro provides and saves multiple complex adjustments, so it can be applied at once by simply clicking on a button. In Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, this is referred to as 'preset'.
HOW DO I USE STYLES?
To apply a look, simply go to the 'Styles and Presets' tool (by default under the 'adjustments' tool tab) and then select 'User Styles'. When you have installed C1 Natural Styles all your different looks appear there. The styles are often times a great starting point for further image editing adjustment. C1 Natural Styles has developed dedicated styles categories, referred to as 'collections', for different photographic scenarios, such as landscape or fashion. For the best and natural results, we recommend to use styles for the developed purpose.
CAN I ADJUST THE EFFECT STRENGTH OF A STYLE?
Each style collection has been developed with a specific 'style strength' in mind in terms of contrast and color effects. There are three different strengths that are labeled with + for a low effect ++ for a medium effect and +++ for a strong effect. For example, the natural collection (+) has only subtle contrast and color tweaks, whereas the the effect is much stronger for styles of the epic collection (+++). However, please note that styles are not applied as adjustment layers. Therefore the opacity of a style as such, cannot be adjusted.
DO I GET EXACTLY THE SAME RESULTS FOR ANY CAMERA AND LENS COMBINATION?
C1 Natural Styles are developed based on the Capture One camera Generic ICC Profile with a 'film standard' curve and the latest raw processing engine. Phase One puts in a lot of effort to develop these ICC profiles to give the the best results for any type of camera and lens combination. Although slight differences can be visible from our experience, the resulting looks are very consistent.
WHICH SOFTWARE DO I NEED?
NEWS: The newly released Capture One 11 is fully compatible.
C1 Natural Styles works with Capture One Pro from Phase One, including Capture One Pro for Sony. For the best results, we recommend to update your software to the latest version. C1 Natural Styles also works with older versions. However, we recommend you do not use them with older versions than version 8. Capture One Express is not supported.
Lightroom is not supported, as C1 takes use of the unique processing engine developed by Phase One.
